Bone Contusions

What causes bone contusions?

  • A bone contusion goes deeper than the skin and muscle and down to the bone. This is the reason that the area might be sore. A contusion means that the bone is injured but remains structurally sound.

Is surgery necessary for bone contusions?

  • Surgery is not necessary for this type of injury.

What is the prognosis?

  • A bone contusion requires significantly less sideline time than a ligament injury or fracture.

Recent Bone Contusions

  • Lakers’ player Moritz Wagner was diagnosed with left knee contusion during an NBA summer league game on July 10th, 2018. Wagner was evaluated with an MRI, perhaps to be sure there was no ACL injury. On the other hand, athletes seem to get MRIs for just about every injury. Moritz will miss the rest of the Summer League.
