OPERATING PARAMETERS
- Operating temperatures:
- From 500 °C to 1700 °C using N2 gas.
Up to 2000 °C in vacuum. - Cooling water:
- Flow rate of 4 gal/min of chilled water at 22 °C filtered to 100 µm.
- Compressed air:
- Dry, filtered, and lubricated compressed air at 75 to 100 psi.
- Process gas:
- Argon regulated to 10 psi.
- Vacuum:
- High vacuum of 10-5 to 10-6 torr.
- Power:
- 480 V, 3-phase, 60 A, 45 kVa electrical power.
FURNACE CHARACTERISTICS
- Working hot zone:
- 50×50×150 mm
- Temperature sensors:
- Two Type C thermocouples, one for temperature measurement and the second for over-temperaturedetection.
- One single-wavelength optical pyrometer for temperature measurement.
FURNACE OPERATION
WARNING
Before the furnace is operated, your experimental configuration must be inspected and approved by Prof. Taleff. Once approval has been given, follow these operating procedures for furnace power-up, operation, and shut-down.
