LaVerne Gallman Summer Research Workshop

Workshop Overview

Title: Health Behavioral Intervention Development: Nuts & Bolts of Intervention Design & Testing

Date: Monday, June 4 through Tuesday, June 5, 2018

Parking: Self parking is available for a fee in Trinity Garage at the corner of MLK & Trinity.

The workshop is designed to introduce attendees to various aspects of intervention development with a particular focus on health-behavior self-management in chronic conditions. Topics include foundational work, different approaches to delivering interventions, sample size/power analysis, feasibility testing, efficacy and effectiveness testing, intervention fidelity, and different mechanisms for collecting data. The target audience is novice researchers who want to learn how to develop interventions or more experienced researchers who want to include health-behavior approaches in their studies.

Event Overview: Join us for the fourth annual LaVerne Gallman Distinguished Lectureship in Nursing and engage with Stanford School of Medicine Mark R. Cullen, MD – Director, Center For Population Health Sciences, Senior Associate Dean for Research, Professor of Medicine, Biomedical Data Science, Epidemiology and Senior Fellow At SIEP to discuss:

  • The core reasons why many are concerned that the incorporation of genomics into precision medicine could lead to widened health disparities
  • Current impediments to research aimed at applying genomics to the care of historically underserved populations
  • Examples of how genomics have been used clinically to assist in prevention and treatment of conditions that disproportionately impact minorities
