TxPEP has published a new article in JAMA Internal Medicine, “Affordability and Access to Abortion Care in the United States.”
In addition to the Hyde Amendment’s restrictions on abortion care in Medicaid, Texas also restricts abortion coverage in private insurance plans.
The authors write, “In 2021, Congress has the opportunity to repeal the Hyde Amendment and restore the use of federal funds to pay for abortion care in Medicaid and other federal health insurance programs. Although major abortion policy reform might be considered a political non-starter, and despite the continuing efforts of Republican-controlled state legislatures to restrict abortion access, easing financial barriers for patients and advocating for affordable and equitable access to essential health service is the right thing to do.”
