A new TxPEP research brief shows the challenges of Medicaid patients seeking IUDs and injectables at Medicaid providers following the exclusion of Planned Parenthood from the Texas Medicaid program.
The brief, based on 194 mystery calls placed to Medicaid providers located near Planned Parenthood health centers, assesses the capacity of those providers to provide single-visit placement of a caller’s requested contraception within two weeks. Researchers find that only 6% of providers accepted Medicaid for IUDs and injectables and followed clinical best practices for timely provision.
Recommendations in the brief include reinstating Planned Parenthood as an eligible Medicaid provider in Texas.
