UIL had a great ride Waymo Robotaxi in Austin

Thank you to Waymo and ‘Max’ Chiyu Jiang for the Waymo ONE invitation code. The Urban Information Lab at The University of Texas at Austin had a fantastic experience with the Waymo Robo Taxi in Austin during its testing period on January 14, 2025. We took two test rides within the service area, and the experience was exceptionally positive. All riders agreed that Waymo drives better than any of us.

This also confirmed our internal research on AV safety. We analyzed 268 Waymo collisions reported by California DMV between 2019 and 2024.
1. 212 (79%) were caused by human errors external to Waymo
2. 40 (15%) caused Waymo human drivers.
3. 16 (6%) caused by Waymo Robots.
