Dong Ho Kang is a currently enrolled PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. His research at the university revolves around Visuotactile Perception for Humanoids. Specifically, he has integrated tactile sensors into humanoid feet and developed a multimodal perception system that can estimate tactile information from computer vision and vice versa.

Prior to this, Dong Ho completed his Master of Science in Robotics from Northwestern University. There, he spearheaded a project on Whisker-based Tactile Sensing and Shape Classification. The project involved simulating rat whisker sensing using C++ and implementing a real-time shape classifier using TensorFlow. He also employed Deep Q-Learning to adjust the orientation of the simulated rat to improve classification accuracy.

His other notable project at Northwestern University was the development of an Autonomous Fire Fighting Robot Arm. This endeavor had him manipulating the HDT Adroit robot arm to autonomously operate a fire extinguisher using ROS and Moveit. He also implemented fire sensing and locating techniques using thermal imaging, depth imaging, and point clouds.
