Alumni Series Alumni Series Carlos Attorney Class of 2017 • Spanish Research Assistant Carlos, an international relations and global studies graduate, shares how his experience in Project SEED became a formative part of his undergraduate years and helped shape mentorship into a value he continues to carry in his career today. He discusses his current work as an attorney, primarily in real estate, how he found his path to law school, and his involvement with Law School…Yes We Can, Sí Se Puede (LSYWC). Carlos also reflects on his time in Project SEED as a field research assistant, where he gained a deeper understanding of language brokers and their experiences. Alumni Series Chantal Nursing Student Class of 2024 • Spanish Research Assistant Chantal, a neuroscience graduate pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree at the University of Texas at Austin, shares how her experience in Project SEED opened the door to new opportunities, including publishing a paper on academic discrimination. She discusses her current journey as a graduate student in The University of Texas nursing program, how she found her path to nursing, and her goal of pursuing cardiovascular care after graduate school. Chantal also reflects on her time in the project, where conducting interviews and home visits allowed her to build meaningful connections with participants and the Mexican American community. Through Project SEED, she developed valuable transferable skills, including leadership, communication, and idea development. She shares how her involvement in research has continued through her current work with Whole Communities, Whole Health. María Paula discusses the various roles she held within Project SEED, including her work across different teams and contributions to several research publications. She reflects on the skills she strengthened through the project, such as scheduling and research writing, and how those skills continue to support her current work. Looking ahead, María Paula shares her goal of earning her social work license and working in a research hospital, where she hopes to continue supporting Latino and Hispanic families.
