The deadline for the DIR Cybersecurity Awareness PSA Competition is now Friday, October 26th. The new deadline will give high school students three extra weeks during CyberSecurity Awareness Month create and submit their cybersecurity PSA for the contest. Teachers, this contest is an excellent opportunity to get your students involved with this vital topic.

We were thrilled to have CAC Director, Rachel Décoste join us for the 2018 WeTeach_CS Summit and take time to discuss the Congressional App Challenge with the Texas CS teachers in attendaance. Now it’s time for Texas CS teachers to step up and make sure your students get registered for the contest! The registration deadline is Monday, September 10th and apps must be submitted by October 15th. CAC rules are fairly simple when it comes to how students can participate and what they can submit, so there’s definitely still time to get involved with this year’s CAC!

Registration now open for TACC UIL Computer Science Contest
Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) in Austin, TX is hosting a UIL-style Computer Science contest for high school students on Saturday, April 21st. The contest site will open at 8am and events will end at approximately 2pm. Registration is free and lunch is provided. Each student will receive a T-shirt, and top placing teams will receive prizes.
Texas Governor's Office looks to increase interest of girls in cybersecurity with Girls Go CyberStart
In January the Texas Governor’s Office announced a partnership with the SANS Institute with the purpose of increasing the number of young women interested in the growing field of cybersecurity. The partnership’s is using the on a training program built on the Girls Go CyberStart online game to reach female students in Texas high schools. The free online game helps students learn about cybersecurity, while building interest and uncovering the hidden computer security talents of participants.
