6 Viamboors

Viamboors are intelligent and populous creatures that evolved on the planet Surat and have since spread throughout the universe. They have flat skulls that end in short, orange snouts, and their small eyes sit under prominent, arched brows. Their bodies resemble a wrinkled turquoise ball, with little muscle and much fat.

These people place great importance on their appearance, and although they have an unattractive look and an unpleasant odor, they adorn themselves in various ways. They often decorate their skin with bright yellow lines and wear long, colorful garments in public. They always carry a large amount of useless trinkets with them, seemingly as a sign of their social status.

Viamboors are both very intelligent and very foolish. Sometimes they solve mathematical equations with astonishing speed and accuracy, while at other times they completely forget obvious things about their past. They especially lack any sense of their own history and often repeat fragments of phrases that travelers and historians of other races have said about them, trying to live according to these fragments. As a result, their various colonies on different planets have entirely different traditions, often adopting the customs of their neighbors.

The culture of Viamboors is a patchwork of meanings prevalent in neighboring lands. They have no specific spontaneous rituals of their own, except for the savage ritual of sacrificing a giant, harmless animal that is specially bred for this ceremony in their cities. This brutal killing is a very unexpected tradition among them, as they are generally gentle and peaceful people and do not eat meat. Besides ceremonies, they also borrow their religions and beliefs from surrounding areas. Their original culture has become so diluted with these external elements that even their original language is unknown, as they speak a mixed and jumbled language borrowed from neighboring races. They have a native form of communication by pressing their fingers together to convey concepts to each other.

Viamboors are usually seen in groups of thirteen. They are always present in society and often touch each other’s bodies. They have two sexes and reproduce by giving birth to live young, maturing quickly, and having two or three children a year. As a result, their population is very large, and their colonies rapidly develop into vast cities, which are often notorious among native races for their overcrowding and environmental pollution.

Etymology: The name Viamboor is derived from the Avesta, where it refers to a tribe of demon worshippers who brutally sacrifice cows and are condemned for their lack of wisdom and nobility. (ibid)
