SYMPOSIUM
Nuclear Energy in Space:

Nonproliferation Risks and Solutions
The Archer Center – University of Texas
Washington, DC
October 17, 2019

NASA aims to deploy nuclear reactors to the surface of the Moon and Mars.  In 2018, it tested a terrestrial prototype using nuclear weapons-grade uranium fuel, despite longstanding U.S. nonproliferation policy to eliminate civilian use of such material worldwide.  NPPP convened stakeholders — from NASA, Congress, White House policy advisers, NGOs, and academia — to debate this issue before the U.S. government makes a decision that could have significant global security, economic, and political consequences.
