I wrote a short essay on collecting for the The Art Basel and UBS Survey of Global Collecting in 2023, at the invitation of Clare McAndrew who is the brains behind the regular survey of art collectors. I was able to suggest a line of questions that tried to unravel the motivations of this community and the results might be the largest data set yet gathered on this topic. You can read more in the essay here. I am finalizing the contract for a book on this topic with Routledge which will occupy my efforts for the immediate future, so stay tuned.
Great article, very informative. By the way, I am currently working on more in-depth analytical essays that will address these and other issues, and I would be interested in your opinion. What aspects of collecting are you most interested in? Do you have your own observations or questions that you would like to see substantively? This would essentially be an analytical essay . And who is knowledgeable in such an essay please share your opinions.
