William J. Scarborough is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of North Texas. His research examines variation in gender norms and their intersection with race. He is the author of Gendered Places: The Landscape of Local Gender Norms across the United States and co-editor, with Barbara Risman and Carissa Froyum, of the Handbook of the Sociology of Gender. His research on shifting gender attitudes, the challenges facing working mothers, and individuals’ support for workplace diversity policies has been published in journals such as the American Sociological Review, Gender & Society, and Social Science Research.
