Caleb Herrera (he/him/his) is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science & Engineering in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, through a 5-year integrated program. Caleb is passionate about advancing medical imaging, with a particular focus on deciphering complex data and improving image resolution. He is a Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar and was recently awarded a travel scholarship to present his research at the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Annual STEM conference. During his undergraduate years, Caleb emphasized imaging and machine learning in his coursework and contributed to various projects, including a video gesture recognition application and a biochemical approach to producing universally donatable blood, the latter funded by the Department of Defense.
At the DMIC Lab, Caleb’s current work centers on enhancing heart failure diagnosis by improving echocardiogram resolution post-acquisition. He is also working on leveraging non-contrast computed tomography for the calculation of ventilation and perfusion. Both of these projects involve the application of generative AI, aiming to push the boundaries of medical imaging technology.
