Dr. Bello Kottenstette is an Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. She is a board-certified family medicine and addiction medicine physician and a core faculty member of Saint Louis University’s Addiction Medicine Fellowship.
In her clinical practice in a correctional health clinic, Dr. Bello Kottenstette identified an opportunity to understand and address the reproductive and sexual health needs of justice-involved women with substance use disorders. She was awarded a career development award from the National Institutes of Health to create an adaptation of the CHOICES intervention, CHOICES-PLEAS (Pregnancy Liberated from Exposure to Alcohol and Substances), that she will pilot test among women with illicit polysubstance use participating in a jail-based treatment program.
Dr. Bello Kottenstette’s goal is to help justice-involved women and men who use substances have healthy families when they are ready by addressing their unique reproductive and sexual health needs.
