Human Trafficking Supply Chain Networks (2018-present)

This study, funded by the National Science Foundation, aims to explore ways to disrupt human trafficking supply chains after natural disasters, such as Hurricane Harvey. The study will inform policymakers, business owners and regulators so they can better combat human trafficking in the construction industry.

The immense damage caused by Harvey created a high demand for a large supply of labor to fuel the reconstruction efforts. Natural disasters, such as Harvey, make some populations particularly vulnerable to exploitation especially in a low-wage, high-hazard industry such as construction. This project examines the effect of natural disasters on human trafficking and the ways in which to disrupt harmful supply chains.
