RET Program and Application

PROGRAM LENGTH: June 13th through July 20th, 2022

PROGRAM DETAILS: This summer STEM teachers will participate in 5.5-week research experience. RETs are paired with a Faculty Mentor and Graduate Student Researchers along with one other RET. In addition to hands-on research experience, the program includes personal and professional development
workshops/seminars. Participants will be in the labs for a roughly 10 hours a week to learn about
lab protocols, lab safety, and how research looks and feels within a university setting. Some of the deliverables of the program would be developing a research-based piece of curriculum aligned with
your 9-12 curricula, engaging your students in applying their learning to real-word problems,
producing scientific results & presenting your research, and gaining critical tools to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers!

ELIGIBILITY: High School engineering, technology, science, and math teachers are eligible to apply.

STIPEND:

  • Stipend for five-week program: $5,500
  • An additional $1,500 after the creation, test, and implementation of the engineering-based lesson in the classroom
  • Classroom supplies allowance to incorporate science experience into classroom and curriculum: $1500

  • Two essays on why you are interested in participating in the CISTAR RET program and how might use what you learn from the program in your classroom next year,
  • Letter of Support from your Principal or other Senior Administrator
