Texas Exes is the official alumni association for the University of Texas. This year, the Texas Exes awarded nearly $2 million to deserving University of Texas students. You can apply for Texas Exes Scholarships for Current Students by filling out the UT Austin Continuing & Transfer Scholarship Application. In order to be considered for Texas Exes Scholarships, that application must be submitted by March 1^st.

 Please note that in order to be considered for Texas Exes Scholarships, you must select “Texas Exes Scholarships” under “Scholarship Choices” in the scholarship application. You will also then need to enter the specific code for each scholarship you wish to apply for. Those codes, and descriptions of all Texas Exes Scholarships for Current Students, can be found by visiting the Named Scholarship section of the Texas Exes website. You’ll want to look at both “Specific Scholarships for Current Students” and “General Scholarships for Current Students.”

FLAS Fellowships are offered for Summer 2013 and Academic-Year 2013-2014

What is the undergraduate Academic Year FLAS?
The European Studies undergraduate FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies) is a Fellowship awarded to undergraduate students who are pursuing 1) coursework with a European focus and 2) an approved modern foreign language at UT at the intermediate or advanced level. The Fellowship is interdisciplinary and open to students from all departments and schools at UT. Students do not need to be European Studies majors to apply.

What does the Fellowship provide?
The FLAS AY Undergraduate Fellowship provides a nine-month stipend of $5,000(paid monthly September-May) plus tuition and required course-related fees up to $10,000 per academic year. Tuition and fees are covered up to 15 hours per semester. The remaining tuition bill is the responsibility of the student.

What languages qualify as “approved” foreign languages?
Czech, Danish, Dutch, Modern Greek, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese*, Serbian/Croatian or Swedish. (English, French, German, and Spanish are not approved languages for this undergraduate fellowship.) We also strongly encourage students studying non-European languages-such as Arabic, Persian, Hindi, Russian, and Turkish-to apply for FLAS fellowships when a contemporary application of those language skills will significantly enhance their work as distinctly European Studies scholars. Students may NOT be native speakers of the language nor possess fluency equivalent to educated native speakers in the language for which the award is sought.

*Please note that students interested in Brazilian Portuguese should apply through the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies.

The European Union Center of Excellence at UT Austin is pleased to offer grants to three UT undergraduate students to travel to Brussels in the summer of 2013 through the EUCE Brussels Program. The trip is funded through the support of the European Commission and organized by the Network of European Union Centers in the U.S.

ALL UT undergraduates are eligible from all departments and schools. However, special consideration will be given to those who are taking courses or are in an area of study relating to Europe or the EU.

Funding includes round-trip airfare to/from Brussels, five nights of hotel and some meals.

The 2013 trip will be in June with dates TBA. The agenda is currently being organized but should be similar to previous years (see agenda on website).

Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on March 29, 2013. No late applications will be accepted.

Along with the completed application, teachers must also provide a letter of support from their current principal.

LAH and Humanities students studying abroad in Spring or Summer are eligible to apply for the LAH Study Abroad Scholarships through Global Assist: http://utdirect.utexas.edu/student/abroad/globalassist.WBX

If you are going on a Maymester, first summer, or second summer session, then you may have problems accessing the scholarship application.  Study Abroad is working on this, but in the meantime, we have a work around.  Just enter in the code “293008” as your program code, say that it is for the whole summer and make sure that you tell us in the description for exactly how long you will be going.
