European Studies’ FLAS Deadline Extended: Feb 1!

The Center for European Studies announces that the FLAS fellowship application deadline has been extended until 5:00pm, Friday, February 1, 2019. Letters of recommendation will be due by 5:00pm Friday, February 8, 2019.

Summer FLAS awards for language study cover $5,000 in tuition and fees, plus a $2,500 stipend for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Academic year FLAS fellowships provide undergraduate students up to $10,000 for tuition and course-related fees plus a $5,000 stipend.

FLAS languages funded by European Studies (CES) and the Department of Education include Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Iberian), Romanian, Serbian, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Yiddish, and more! For more information please visit CES’undergraduate FLAS pages to apply!

Texas Exes Scholarship Application Now Open!

The Texas Exes application for Current UT Students and Transfer Student scholarship is now open!

The application has opportunities available for current UT undergrads, grad students, or incoming Fall 2019 transfer students. Students must be planning to enroll full-time for the 2019-2020 school year.

The deadline will be March 1, 2019 at 11:59 PM CST. Students can apply by going to texasexes.academicworks.com and click “sign up” or “sign in” in the upper right-hand corner!

NEW Leadership™ Texas 2019 – Applications now open

YOU ARE INVITED TO APPLY to the 2019 NEW Leadership™ Texas program!

If you are interested in having a greater representation of women in elected office and/or are considering a career in politics, policymaking, or public service, you should apply to this weeklong residential summer institute.

NEW Leadership™ Texas is a national non-partisan program developed to address the underrepresentation of women in American politics. NEW Leadership™ Texas educates college women about the important role that politics plays in their lives and encourages them to become effective leaders in the political arena.

Who should apply?

▪ Undergraduate women enrolled in any Texas college or university for 2018-2019, or are graduating in May 2019;
▪ Texas residents attending out-of-state schools;
▪ All majors are welcome;
▪ Women of color and non-traditional students are encouraged to apply.

Whether or not you think you want to run for elected office, if you would like to create positive change in your community, YOU SHOULD APPLY!

Approximately 35 undergraduates representing a variety of universities, majors, class years, ethnicities, geographic locations, economic, and personal backgrounds will be selected to participate.

The application deadline is March 20, 2019.

No cost to YOU!

There is no direct cost to students. All program materials, meals, and lodging are provided. However, as part of the application process, you will be required to request $500 from your school for the program fee. Thanks to our generous donors, we do have a limited number of scholarships available for students who are unable to obtain funding from their schools.

Colombia Business School Summer Research Internship

Columbia Business School is seeking outstanding applications for the 2019 Summer Research Internship program.  The highly selective program provides an intellectually stimulating environment and introduces the interns to the world of business research.  Under the guidance of Columbia Business School’s leading faculty, interns will take an active role on a research project in one of the following areas: accounting, economics, finance, marketing, management, decision sciences, operations, and data analytics.  This is a multi-disciplinary program and candidates from all majors are encouraged to apply.

The internship program is designed for undergraduate students at the end of their sophomore or junior year and first year Masters students.  Exceptional students from other classes are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Most of the top interns have gone to leading MS and PhD programs in Economics, Finance, Computer Science, Management, Operations Research, and Data Science. Many have been selected to join CBS as full-time Research Associates or admitted to one of CBS’ PhD programs.

All prospective interns must have the following qualifications:

– Enthusiasm for research, intellectual curiosity, and excellent communications skills

– The ability to learn new concepts and tools and apply them to your projects

Skills for Quantitative Projects

– Most Economics, Finance, and Accounting (and economics-based management and marketing) projects require:

– Strong background or major in econometrics and statistics

– The ability to run regressions using statistical packages such as STATA or R

– Quantitative projects in Management, Marketing or DRO require:

– Background or major in mathematics, computer science, or engineering

– Strong programming background (C/C++, Python, R, or Matlab, etc.

– Some projects may require the ability to do text processing using Python or Perl familiarity with basic machine learning algorithms

Skills for Behavioral projects in Management or Marketing

– Interest in behavioral experiments – background or major in Psychology

– Knowledge of SPSS, some projects may require knowledge of Python or R

The program runs from May 28, 2019 – July 26 or August 2, 2019 (end dates to be determined).  On-campus housing and a stipend will be provided.
