Call for Entries: 2020 Andrew Julius Gutow Poetry Prize

The Andrew Julius Gutow Academy of American Poets Prize recognizes the achievement of an undergraduate and a graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin.   

Each winner will receive $100 and a one-year membership to the Academy of American Poets. Winners 23 years-old or younger will also be considered for the Academy’s Aliki Perroti and Seth Frank Most Promising Young Poet Award. The winner of the Aliki Perroti and Seth Frank Most Promising Young Poet Award will receive $1000. 

In addition, one student may be selected for honorable mention in both the undergraduate and graduate categories. The Academy issues letters of congratulation to the winners, and also sends letters of congratulation to honorable mentions. All winners are announced in the Academy’s Annual Report. 

Guidelines: 

All Undergraduate and Graduate Students at the University of Texas at Austin are invited to submit 4-6 original poems (no more than 10 pages total) to gutowpoetryprize@gmail.com. There is no restriction on theme or style.

 Please submit poems in a single .docx file. Only .docx submissions will be accepted. The file should be labeled with your name and should indicate whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student entrant. Example: “Gutow_Undergraduate_John_Smith.”

 Please include your name, your age, and your contact information in the body of the e-mail. Cover letters or biographical notes are not necessary; please do not include them with your submissions.

 Entrants must be enrolled during the Spring 2020 semester to be eligible.

 Deadline: All entries must be received by the end of the day, 11:59pm (CST), on April 1 2020.
