Publish Your Humanities Research!
The Searcher is a new academic journal sponsored by the Department of English that provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to publish scholarly work in the humanities. Any and all research is welcome, but we especially encourage English literary research.
We are currently open to submissions and accept works under 3,000 words for our e-journal and works over 3,000 words for our print journal—a copy of which will be provided for free to contributors! Submit to the print journal here by November 22 and the e-journal here by December 7.
Visit The Searcher’s website (linked here) or contact minzamirza@utexas.edu for more information.
UT GIS Day 2024
UT GIS Day is back in 2024! To highlight the innovative geospatial research being carried out here at UT Austin, we are inviting UT students to share their work in our poster competition. Any project (with a student first author) that makes use of GIS or involves geospatial data is eligible to enter. A panel of judges will score posters with monetary awards for the top scoring posters. First place will be awarded $200, second place $150, and third place $100.
Submit the proposal form if you are interested in participating in the session which will take place on Wednesday 11/20 from 4:00pm to 5:00pm in the Scholars Lab in the Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL). The deadline for poster submissions is Tuesday, November 5th and there are limited poster spaces available so consider submitting early to secure a place in the competition. If you would like to present your poster but do not to want to enter the competition you may select that option in the proposal form.

Embedded Scholars 2025 Fellowships
The Embedded Scholars Program has opened its 2025 Fellowship Application focused on democratic and constitutional development in Latin America, Eurasia, and the Balkans. This is a funded international internship open to undergraduate and graduate students from any major at UT.
The program provides unparalleled opportunities for students interested in democracy to work with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance in Latin America and the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs in Eurasia and the Balkans. Students receive training at UT in the spring before going abroad for the summer to support democracy assistance programs and conduct original research.
Join us for an information session and coffee on October 15, 2024, from 12:30-1:30pm, in BAT 5.108 or on Zoom. Program directors and prior fellows will share more about the program and fellows’ work in the field.
Applications are due December 1, 2024 and can be found here. For more information, visit the links above or contact Ashley Moran (ashleymoran@utexas.edu) and Zachary Elkins (zelkins@austin.utexas.edu) with any questions.
