LEAD Week 2025

Texas Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) in the Office of the Dean of Students is excited to announce LEAD Week 2025! LEAD Week is made up of a series of events and leadership workshops that encourage students to explore their leader identity and further develop their leadership skills to enact positive change in their communities.

LEAD Week (February 24 – 28) consists of a series of events and skill-building workshops to support you in your leadership development journey. You are encouraged to attend these hands-on, engaging programs to develop your leader identity and to explore ways you can make a positive impact on-campus and beyond.

SXSW Volunteer Opportunities

SXSW, Austin’s very own film festival, offers several volunteer roles, one of which could be the perfect opportunity for you!

For those who are looking for a wide event experience, there are 17 crews in our Conference & Programming Volunteer Crews. From Tech Setup, Film & TV, Banners, Accessibility and more! Through the Music & Comedy Volunteer Crews, volunteers can gain live event industry experience by joining crews such as: Artist Parking Operations, Day Stage, Music Stage, Festival Line Guides and Comedy Crew. In their free time, volunteers have the opportunity to enjoy all the Conference and Networking events in over 20 tracks from Advertising & Brand Experience, AI, Climate & Sustainability to Fashion and Creator Economy, as well as all the Film & TVMusic and Comedy Programming.

There is also an upcoming Volunteer Call at the Austin Convention Center (Ballroom ABC) on Sunday, January 26, from 1-4pm. It’s a great chance to come talk to SXSW staff and volunteer crews in person to learn more about this volunteer experience!

LAHSC is hosting our semesterly blood drive with We Are Blood! The reward this semester is a free box of Girl Scout Cookies! Scan the flyer QR code or click the link here to sign up for a time slot. More time slots may roll out later in the week!

Tyler Fellowships

The Office of Undergraduate Research is accepting applications for 2025 Tyler Fellows at The University of Texas at Austin. Six Tyler Fellows will be awarded between $3,000 and $3,500 each to support independent research abroad during spring or summer 2025. Funding for these awards is provided by the Tyler Center for Global Studies. Applications are due 11:59 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2025.

Bookshelf Contest

The Office of the Dean of Students Cactus Yearbook Bookshelf needs a makeover, and we need your help to transform it. This is an opportunity for students from any major with a flair for design to showcase their talents and leave a lasting impact on campus. The bookshelf will predominantly feature our collection of Cactus Yearbooks from nearly every year since 1920.  The chosen student will work closely with the department to bring their design to life. The selected artist will also receive campus-wide recognition and a financial award of $500. Attend an info session to learn more about the application process, view the yearbook collection, and explore our space.

Undergraduate Research Symposium

The UT Senate of College Councils is hosting a research symposium on Tuesday, November 19th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Shirley Perry Ballroom in the Texas Union. The event will consist of talks from first generation researchers who will present their research journeys and provide advice to students that are interested in doing the same. The second half of the event will be a poster board showcase where researchers can present their projects and/or have one-on-one conversations with prospective researchers. This event is open to all majors and backgrounds.

Legislative and Government Affairs Internship Fair

Mark your calendars for the Fall 2024 Legislative & Government Affairs Internship Fair on November 14, 2024! The fair will be co-hosted by Texas Politics Project, Liberal Arts Career Services, LBJ School of Public Affairs, and UT Law. Connect with organizations recruiting for post-graduate and internship positions. The fair is a come-and-go event, so feel free to stop by in between classes. Professional attire is recommended.

National Undergraduate Humanities Research Symposium

UT Austin students are invited to submit their work to Johns Hopkins University’s sixth annual Richard Macksey National Undergraduate Humanities Research Symposium, which brings together undergraduate students from across the country to present their humanities research. This year’s symposium will be held from March 20-22, 2025, on the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland. Submissions (in the form of a title and abstract) are due by December 9, 2024. Participants in the 2025 symposium can expect:

  • A robust audience of more than 200 presenters and guests
  • A friendly, supportive, and encouraging environment
  • A keynote address by a nationally recognized humanities scholar
  • Networking opportunities at receptions and meals
  • Info sessions on graduate programs and research opportunities in the humanities
  • An invitation to revise their presentation into a journal-length publication for the journal of proceedings, the Macksey Journal.

Application instructions can be found here! Notifications of acceptance to the conference will be made at the beginning of January. Early bird registration (by January 15) will be $150. Regular registration (by January 31) will be $175. More information about the conference schedule can be found on the Attendance Information page. Please note that the UT Office of Undergraduate Research is not able to financially support travel to undergraduate conferences.

Moody Minors Fair

Students can explore the credentials, academic experiences, and opportunities offered by Moody to enhance their degrees. These experiences will shape the narrative they present to employers, showcasing their skills and knowledge. The fair will feature all 13 Moody Minors, along with UTLA, UTNY, Texas Global, and the Archer program!
