The LBJ School offers a number of student organizations to get involved in the community and the broader UT campus. Here are a list of the organizations:
Alexander Hamilton Society:
The Alexander Hamilton Society is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting constructive debate on basic principles and contemporary issues in foreign, economic and national security policy. Each semester, AHS brings in numerous highly respected policy experts to discuss and debate foreign policy and global issues with UT professors.
The Baines Report:
The Baines Report is an approved LBJ student organization composed of and governed by students of the LBJ School of Public Affairs. The Report is dedicated to publishing student op-eds, blogs and media related to current policy.
Feminist Policy Alliance:
The Feminist Policy Alliance is an inclusive community for LBJ School students focusing on policy issues affecting women. FPA brings education and advocacy to the LBJ School, the University and the Austin community
Great Softball Society/LBJ Softball Club:
The LBJ Softball Club is a diverse and spirited team, bringing together current student and alumni players from the MGPS and MPAFF programs. They showcase their passion for the game of softball in our local Austin Parks and Rec slow pitch softball league. The highlight of their season is the April championship clash, where they vie for the coveted “Dillo Cup” against rivals from Texas A&M’s Bush School of Government & Public Service.
International City Management Association (ICMA):
The purpose of the UT ICMA student chapter is to introduce and integrate LBJ students into local government. A primary goal of this chapter is to connect Texas city and county managers with UT’s next generation of public leaders through networking events, mentoring opportunities, shadowing experiences, and internships with local governments.
Policy Alliance for Communities of Color (PACC):
The mission of the Policy Alliance for Communities of Color (PACC) is to promote awareness and understanding of policy issues affecting communities of color by initiating dialogue, activities and programs within the LBJ School community. PACC’s programming endeavors to reach out to the LBJ student body, the greater UT campus and the community of Austin.
Queer Policy Coalition (QPC):
Queer Policy Coalition is graduate student run organization focused on promoting LGBTQ+ issues. QPC host workshops and invite speakers to help spread awareness on current issues affecting the queer community. QPC also strives to build a welcoming community through social events. Their mission is to promote equity and intersectionality at LBJ and our community at large.
Student Collective For Abolitionist Learning (SCAL):
The Student Collective for Abolitionist Learning is a student organization that seeks to challenge the carceral state and all ties to the prison industrial complex on the University campus and beyond. Through education, community, advocacy, and policy work, SCAL wants to divest from oppressive institutions, such as prisons and policing. SCAL hopes to use activism and engagement with system-impacted peers and leaders to advocate for abolition in our nation, our state, our communities, and in our daily lives.
Texas Civil Discourse:
Texas Civil Discourse is a graduate student organization for emerging policy professionals, community leaders, and civic-minded citizens interested in building the skills to have the difficult conversations needed for social healing, policy making and productive leadership. TCD’s mission is to create discussion and share tools to build the emotional and conceptual skills needed to have grounded, trauma-aware discourse in our polarized world.
Unidos:
Students Unidos is a student-led Latino Policy Group that aims to foster a dynamic and inclusive community that empowers Latino students and allies to make meaningful impact on public policy. The founding of this organization reflects a growing Latino population in the state of Texas and LBJ students.
