Mesoamerica Meetings Coming Fall 2026

An enormous pyramid towers over a green landscape with an open lawn, trees along the border, and small structures on the ground. The pyramid has an imposing and steep stone stairway that leads about two-thirds of the way up. The top of the pyramid is a jagged-looking stone structure that juts upward.

The Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies and the Mesoamerica Center (UT College of Fine Arts) join efforts to host the 2026 Mesoamerica Meetings, “Tikal: New Research and New Perspectives,” taking place on the University of Texas at Austin campus November 5–7, 2026.

Co-organized by Professor David Stuart (director, Mesoamerica Center, Department of Art and Art History) and Dr. Edwin Román Ramírez (director, Proyecto Arqueológico del Sur de Tikal, or PAST), the meetings will include a day-long hieroglyph workshop conducted by Professor Stuart and a two-day symposium of invited papers.

Three men sit side by side on mottled gray stone steps, which extend above them. There is moss and other greenery growing on some of the steps. The men's pants are dusty. They are all smiling at the camera.
