Many of us have experienced some form of trauma throughout our lives. Trauma leaves a lasting impact on our behaviors and well-being. Although we might not always be conscious of it, our body keeps the score.
The Talking Beyond Trauma Podcast features real talk with real people who work across the mental and behavioral health space. Each season, our hosts from the Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health (TIEMH) invite special guests with unique perspectives on trauma and trauma-informed care. So far, we’ve covered workplace culture and trauma, mindful self-compassion, maternal mental health, and mental health disparities.

About Dr. Natalie Fikac
Natalie Fikac (she/her), Ed.D. has over 27 years of educational experience. She holds a Masters in Education in School Counseling and School Administration from Sam Houston State University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lamar University. Her research interests include school mental and behavioral health, systems change, leadership, wellness, resiliency, and self-compassion.
About Amanda Boquist
Amanda Boquist (she/her), M.A. received her Master’s in Forensic Psychology from Adelphi University in New York. She has over 15 years of experience working in clinical settings and most recently in schools and school districts, supporting school counselors across systems. In her free time, Amanda enjoys traveling, visiting new restaurants, and playing with her boys, Joshua and Luke.

Mordecai Dixon (he/him/his), M.A. has worked in human services with diverse populations for thirty years. He is a masters level graduate with a specialization in Organizational Psychology. Mordecai has dedicated his career to improving service outcomes of organizations and the people impacted by services. His goal is to enhance the capacity of organizations, at all levels, serving those identified as most vulnerable.

Dr. Jacob Ham is a licensed clinical psychologist who works to improve people’s lives by helping them heal from interpersonal injury and the self-harm of fear, doubt, loathing, and despair. He pursues this goal through direct clinical work, executive coaching, training and consultation, program evaluation, forensic evaluations, program development, and public education through podcasts and YouTube.
