Intervention and/or Curriculum
The Positive Action Secondary Drug Curriculum
Curriculum includes peer to peer support, interactive role-playing scenarios, and smaller groups to encourage relationships with our intervention specialists as well as with the other youth participating to achieve the same goal. The curriculum consists of ten 40-minute sessions which consist of two lessons that dive into in-depth learning regarding the effects of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs as they relate to each of the unit concepts. They teach the importance and results of drug-free living (success and happiness). There are 2-3 lessons per unit that can stand alone or enhance the classroom curriculum as it promotes positive youth development, mental health, and health education. There is an additional 10 minutes each session where students learn emotional regulation strategies that will incorporate art, mindfulness and breathing techniques, meditation, communication skills, and music.
