20th Anniversary Celebration of the Austin Project

Austin Project Founder Dr. Omi Osun Jones.

This reading/dance party/community gathering, co-sponsored by LGBTQ Studies and allgo, was held October 19, 2022 at the allgo space in East Austin. The Austin Project was a community of artists, activists and academics, founded by then-Director of the Warfield Center for African-American Studies, Dr. Omi Osun Jones, and led by anchor artist Sharon Bridgforth. One of the first Austin Project performances was held at allgo in December 2002. This year, we invited Omi back to mark the incredible impact of the Project, which launched careers and communities around the world. We enjoyed short readings from current work by some of our well-known Austin Project siblings, and then the whole thing morphed into a dance party.
