VA Nursing Academic Partnership for Graduate Education Psychiatric Mental Health Residency Program
The VA Nursing Academic Partnership for Graduate Education Program (VANAP-GE), a partnership between the Durham VA Healthcare System (DVAHCS) and the Duke University School of Nursing, offers a residency for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) specializing in the provision of comprehensive healthcare to the Veteran population.
The mission of this program is to enhance the competencies of PMHNPs, providing a well-qualified workforce to increase access to excellent psychiatric mental health services for the Veterans throughout the country. Increasing the availability of these providers will expand the Department of Veteran Affairs ability to provide comprehensive psychiatric mental health services and to improve the overall quality of health and mental health services.
The residency program will be 1 year in length and will include various clinical rotation assignments that will augment the resident’s knowledge and skills. There will be structured didactic experiences with Veteran-centered curriculum. Clinical rotations will be within the DVAHCS, primarily at the Durham VA Medical Center (DVAMC). DVAMC is a 271 bed tertiary care referral, teaching and research facility affiliated with the Duke University Schools of Medicine and Nursing. The DVAMC provides general and specialty medical, surgical and psychiatric inpatient and ambulatory services, and serves as a major referral center for North Carolina, southern Virginia, northern South Carolina and Eastern Tennessee.
A unique opportunity of this residency program is that a resident may apply to and if accepted, take part in the Duke School of Nursing’s Doctorate of Nursing Practice program while participating in the residency. Some of the hours in the post graduate residency program may be applied to the Duke DNP program. More importantly, the quality improvement capstone project undertaken as part of the postgraduate residency is an excellent opportunity to also be considered as the capstone quality improvement project that is integral to all accredited DNP programs.
This is a paid residency- salary is $77,688/year
