Cook Children’s Nurse Extern Program Summer 2025

Cook Children’s nurse extern program offers an exceptional pediatric learning opportunity for nursing students to develop pediatric nursing knowledge and skills in the Fort Worth Medical Center. Externs are paired 1:1 with an RN for a full time, 10 week, paid position. The program also provides an ideal experience for those planning to apply for the Nurse Residency program as a newly graduated nurse.

Who may apply: Nursing students enrolled in a BSN program with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and 2 clinical courses completed by May 16, 2025.

Program timeline: 

January 31- Application deadline

February 17-21 – Applicant interviews

February 24-28 – Selection and notification

May 19 – Program start

July 26 – Program end

Applicants complete an online application as well as an additional information form. Transcript(s) and two letters of recommendation are required.
