In support of the new multi-purpose arena, recently named the Moody Center, a separate project will realign Red River Street from the 1800 block to East Dean Keeton Street. The Red River realignment will have multiple travel impacts beginning on Monday, December 2. When both projects are completed, the new alignment of Red River will become a City of Austin roadway with single northbound and southbound lanes, a center turn lane, bicycle paths and sidewalks. For a brief overview, visit the Capital Planning and Construction web page for these projects.
From December 2, 2019, until January 2022, the campus community can expect these travel impacts:
- Red River will be closed from Clyde Littlefield Drive to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (MLK).
- Robert Dedman Drive will be closed at Red River to just north of the 20th Street intersection.
- Access to 20th Street from San Jacinto will be closed and reopened in spring 2020. There will be no through-access to the east side of the Child Care Center and Texas Swim Center during this time.
- Temporary access to the Child Care Center and Texas Swim Center from Red River just south of Lot 80 will be open through January 2022.
We will provide periodic updates, and the Construction Advisory web page will be an ongoing resource for information as work moves forward. Signage will be installed at key locations to assist with wayfinding. Due to the fluid nature of construction, the information in this advisory email is subject to change, but we will do our best to provide timely communication if changes are necessary.
