Introduction and Purpose:
You are invited to participate in a study to describe emotional intelligence among nursing students at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing. Study findings will help to understand whether or not the inclusion of emotional intelligence education is beneficial for nursing students.
Your participation in the study is completely voluntary. We ask you to participate because you are currently enrolled as a nursing student at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing.
Procedure:
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete a survey consisting of demographic questions followed by questions that measure general emotional intelligence. It is estimated that it should take you no more than 10-15 minutes to complete the electronic survey.
Benefits:
Aggregate results of the survey on emotional intelligence will be shared with you. You will also be able to click on a link after completion of the survey to obtain instructions on how to compute your EI score. Completion of the survey and an understanding of emotional intelligence may be beneficial for your academic and professional endeavors in nursing.
Risks:
There are no direct risks that are currently known for participation in this study.
Voluntary Participation
Taking part in this study is voluntary. You may choose not to take part in the study, or if you decide to take part, you can later change your mind and not complete the survey questionnaire. Your participation in the study will not affect your participation within the School of Nursing and will not be shared with your colleagues.
Alternatives:
This document is intended to supply you with the information necessary to make an informed decision about your participation. The only alternatives available in this study are to choose to participate and continue to the survey or decline to participate.
Confidentiality:
The information collected in this study is confidential. No personally identifying data is collected. All findings will be presented as aggregate data.
