Become a Mentee in the Black and Latinx/e Advising Student to Student (BLASTS) Career Peer Mentor Program
Through the program, you’ll:
- Build a master resume and learn how to craft a cover letter
- Understand career options and preferences derived from MBTI assessment results
- Gain interviewing skills using the STAR Method, Project Grid and more
- Articulate your personal interests through networking and personal branding
- Create or enhance your profiles on HireUTexas, LinkedIn and HookedIn
- Use networking platforms and online tools to increase your professional portfolio and knowledge
of career competencies
Program Details
• Meet virtually each week with an upperclass mentor and a small group of fellow mentees on a variety of career-related topics
- Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week for 12 weeks
- Dates: September 13 – December 3
- Location: Remote/virtual learning
Program Eligibility and Expectations
- Mentees must be enrolled as a first-year or sophomore class level undergraduate student for the Fall 2021 semester and personally identify as a member of the Black
and/or Latinx/e community - Must have evening availability for group meetings
- Strong interest in exploring career opportunities and career
education topics
- Strong interest in building career portfolio such as
resume, cover letter, etc.
- Strong skills in relationship development and community building
- Demonstrated initiative and follow-through skills; punctuality and professional demeanor
