Halcyon was founded by Amy Sweet, PA-C eight years ago in Austin, Texas. Through Halcyon, Amy has fulfilled her dream of creating a company with a concierge level of care through the provision of home care, home health, and hospice with a focus on aging in the residential setting of a client or patient’s choice. Halcyon provides personalized care to meet each client/patient’s needs through a team of caregivers, CNA’s, nurses, and therapists. We have gained additional recognition with our expansion to San Marcos and have been honored to receive Best of Home Health and Hospice Awards for 5 years by the Austin Senior Resource Guide. Amy started as a senior caregiver herself in her teens and worked her way through undergraduate and PA school. This successful progression along her own career path has encouraged her to want to make career advancement a possibility for others as well.
Why is Halcyon Important to Your Students?
We have a vast array of job opportunities for your students with both part time and full-time hours they can take advantage of while they are working on their degrees. For caregiving, we pride ourselves in flexible scheduling, allowing our clients to choose their own hours, with no timeframe too short or too long. This gives us a wonderful recruitment ability in that we can offer nearly any type of shift someone is looking for. We pride ourselves in working diligently to choose professionals with a heart for the elderly, combined with a skill set that matches the level of care each client needs. We currently staff 14,000 hours in central Texas, with increases weekly, and maintain upwards of 300 available shifts each week. With our continued rate of growth and an increasing need in the Austin and San Marcos areas for excellent caregivers, this guarantees consistent, reliable employment for your students. Amy places a focus on maintaining independence and control by our Caregivers in that they can accept or decline any of our available shifts based on multiple criteria; Case Acuity/Case Difficulty , Distance from Home, Number of Hours, & Pay Rate. The students only work the hours they are willing to accept, this Flexible Schedule model, combined with an owner who truly cares about her team, is truly what sets us aside from other Employers.
Why Behind the What:
As touched on above, Amy climbed her career ladder with a start in caregiving. She began her healthcare career as a CNA, worked as an EMT, continued her education, and is currently a Licensed Physician’s Assistant. She started the company in hopes of finding a caregiver for her aunt. After many trials and tribulations with other staffing agencies, Amy decided to hand pick her own caregiver for her aunt. Amy wanted a caregiver who was able to meet the mental & spiritual needs of her aunt, as well as provide adequate clinical care. Following finding the right caregiver match for her aunt, Amy witnessed a dramatic change in her loved one’s quality of life. Amy was overwhelmed with a need to make it her priority to improve the quality of life for others for the rest of her life. Thus, she opened the doors of Halcyon Home.
