The Texas Special Olympics Winter Games will be held at Hill Country Indoor (13875 Bee Cave Parkway, Bee Cave, TX 78738) from February 18-20, and athletes will be competing in floorball, volleyball, cycling, golf, powerlifting, and FUNdamental sports.
In conjunction with this event, Special Olympics MedFest will be on Saturday, February 19 from 10AM-4PM. This is a mass health screening event that allows athletes to complete their annual sports physicals to ensure their continued participation in Special Olympics in the coming year. We are looking for medical volunteers to help with checking vital signs, assisting with intake, and completing sports physicals. Students (medical, nursing, PA, NP, MAs) and residents are welcomed to volunteer, and this is a GREAT opportunity to learn now to interact with and provide care for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
You can check out this video for more info about MedFest: Special Olympics Healthy Athletes: MedFest – YouTube.
Of note, the Special Olympics COVID mitigation committee is meeting regularly to assess the COVID numbers. The current plan is proceed with the event as scheduled with requirements for masking, temperature checks, and social distancing when possible. If COVID cases continue to rise, however, then the event may be cancelled in efforts to protect all participants.
This is a fun and rewarding event, and I would love to see you there! If you have questions or are interested in volunteering, please email me at Judy.Kim@austinpcc.org (with your medical training level) and I’ll send you more info and the registration link.
Thanks in advance for your time!
