Note: This position resides in Austin and will be based at the University of Texas System Office.
The Texas Collaborative for Healthy Mothers and Babies (TCHMB) is the state’s Perinatal Quality Collaborative, working with hospitals to increase maternal and newborn health care quality, equity and patient safety. Under the direction of the Strategic Initiatives Director, the Senior Research Nurse Coordinator will lead and implement quality improvement (QI) projects in hospitals. The Senior Research nurse will provide training on QI models, tools and strategies to TCHMB workgroups and participating hospitals and facilities. They will advise participating hospitals and facilities on QI implementation strategies, and train hospital clinical and non-clinical staff on evidence-based or developed clinical interventions, tool kits or programs. They will work with other TCHMB staff to develop evaluation strategies, collect project-related metrics, and compile findings. The Senior Research nurse will work closely with other research staff to design research and identify data needs.
The Senior Research nurse will maintain their nursing and QI certifications and continued education needs. They will stay current on new practices and literature related to QI strategies. This position will be based in Austin, Texas. In-state travel is required for this position (20-30%) to assist project sites in implementation of QI projects within their practices or to attend project-related meetings. There will be potential for out-of-state travel to present findings at scientific conferences (depending on availability of funds). The Senior Research nurse will be involved with developing grants focused on improving health outcomes and services for maternal and infants’ health in Texas. The position is funded through a contract with a 2-year term, which has the potential for further extension.
Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Advises and provides technical assistance to participating hospitals and facilities on QI Implementation strategies, and trains hospital clinical and non-clinical staff on evidence-based or developed clinical interventions, tool kits or programs.
- Works with other TCHMB staff to develop evaluation strategies, collect project-related metrics, and compile findings.
- Works closely with other research staff to design research and identify data needs.
- May lead the implementation and coordination of specific QI projects
- Maintain their nursing and QI certifications and continued education needs.
- Stays current on their practices and literature related to QI strategies.

Qualifications
Required Education / Experience:
- RN and certification in Quality Improvement (QI)
- At least 2 years’ experience implementing QI projects in a hospital setting
- Experience training both clinical and non-clinical staff on QI methods and in data collection and reporting
- Experience managing research projects
- Works well in diverse team settings
Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Prefer hospital-based experience in obstetrics or neonatal care
