Background: Geriatric/gerontological nursing continues to be an area of care with significant needs and opportunities given our increasing senior population.
Westminster is an award-winning senior living community in Austin providing various living options and other amenities to its senior residents, as well as state-of-the-art on-site healthcare. As a non-profit serving the Austin senior community for 55 years, Westminster has a wide range of supervisory and direct patient care opportunities for nurses at its skilled healthcare facility.
The Martha C. Gooding Foundation for Compassionate Nursing is a non-profit organization established to honor UT School of Nursing (“UTSON”) graduate Martha Gooding and her long career in critical care nursing, through the funding of nursing scholarships for students committed to providing patient-focused compassionate nursing care. The Foundation has funded over 50 nursing scholarships in its nine years. Together with Westminster, The Martha C. Gooding Foundation is making this $2,500.00 scholarship for the 2023-24 school year available for a UTSON undergraduate or graduate student having an interest in geriatric/gerontological nursing.
Purpose: To promote patient-centered compassionate geriatric/gerontological nursing care by providing financial assistance to a student pursuing and undergraduate or graduate degree and having an interest on providing quality healthcare to our senior population.
