The South Texas Theatre Auditions provide colleges and schools from across the U.S. the opportunity to scout exceptional talent from the Rio Grande Valley region of Texas. High school seniors and college transfer students who are seriously considering majoring in theatre in college present monologues, musical theatre selections, and technical theatre portfolios for the consideration of college admissions representatives.
We will host an in-person event on Monday, October 16, 2023 at South Texas College in McAllen, TX. Students will be able to register online for an in-person audition or presentation time. The deadline to register for the in-person event is Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 12:00p.m. CDT.
Students will also be able to submit materials via a virtual platform. Students are welcome to attend the in-person event AND submit materials virtually. Please visit stta.getacceptd.com to submit your online audition, portfolio, or teaching statement. Guidelines and requirements for each program are posted on the Acceptd site. The deadline to submit a virtual application is November 13, 2023 by 11:59pm CST.
We strongly encourage students registering for the in-person event to ALSO submit a virtual audition/portfolio/teaching statement since there are multiple schools that will only be reviewing virtual submissions.
“Our mission is to help performers, designers, and technicians from theatre programs across the Rio Grande Valley to pursue a college education and prepare for a career in the arts by attending the best theatrical programs in the nation. This event helps students connect with college recruiters, receive scholarship support, and dream big.”
– Jaclyn Benavidez, local theatre educator and event organizer
STTA is a pilot program between The University of Texas at Austin and local theatre educators from across the Rio Grande Valley.
