Who can participate?
Graduating high school seniors and transferring college students who plan to attend a university in Fall 2024 and major in theatre are encouraged to participate.

What’s the schedule for the in-person event?
The Fall 2023 South Texas Theatre Auditions will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023. There will also be a virtual option for students to submit their materials. We strongly encourage students registering for the in-person event to ALSO submit a virtual audition/portfolio/teaching statement since there are multiple schools that will only be reviewing virtual submissions.
Audition In-Person: In-person auditions will take place on Monday, October 16, 2023 at South Texas College in McAllen, TX. A survey will be posted by September 1, 2023 for students to register for an in-person audition or presentation time.

Submit Online: Interested students should submit an audition, portfolio, or teaching statement for the STTA event on Acceptd. You will create your profile and upload the required materials for your intended area of study. Guidelines for each area are listed on the Acceptd home page. Once your application has been submitted, institutional representatives will be able to review your materials. If a representative thinks you might be a good fit for their program, they will follow-up with you to discuss their program options and the application process for their school.
The deadline to submit your virtual application is November 13, 2023 by 11:59pm CST.
NOTE: You will still need to apply to an institution if you want to be considered for admission. Part of this application may include another audition or interview, depending on the school.
What should I prepare?
Students auditioning for Acting:
For some pointers on how to light, frame, and otherwise make a great audition, please watch this video from the previous Head of Acting at The University of Texas at Austin, Quetta Carpenter.
- Personal Introduction – Tell us who you are, where you’re from, and why you are interested in pursuing a Theatre degree in college (approximately one minute).
- Two Contrasting Monologues of your choice. Choose material that you feel really shows off your skills and talents (2 minutes total).
- NOTE: The personal introduction and two monologues should be uploaded as one video file. Separate clips are not allowed.
- Headshot
- NOTE: headshot does not have to be a professional headshot. It can be a clear image taken on your mobile device.
- Artistic Resume
- Please compose a short paragraph describing your artistic identity and any additional interests you have besides performance.
Students auditioning for Musical Theatre:
For some pointers on how to light, frame, and otherwise make a great audition, please watch this video from the previous Head of Acting at The University of Texas at Austin, Quetta Carpenter.
- Personal Introduction – Tell us who you are, where you’re from, and why you are interested in pursuing a Theatre degree in college (approximately one minute).

- Sixteen bars from a song with piano accompaniment; no acapella (1 minute).

- Artistic Resume

Students interested in Theatre Education:
- Please compose a short paragraph telling us why you are interested in being a theatre teacher.
- Introduction video: This is an opportunity for us to “meet you”. Please start with your name and hometown, then tell us about how you became involved in the theatre. If there’s time, tell us a fun fact about yourself, or tell us where you are shooting your video from and why (approximately 1 minute).

Students interested in Technical Theatre:
You can upload your portfolio to your application or include a link to a webpage or other source.
