Who can participate?
Graduating high school seniors and transferring college students who plan to attend a university in Fall 2025 and major in theatre are encouraged to participate. These auditions are NOT open to the public – only current high school seniors and college students are eligible to participate.
How much does it cost?
STTA is free for participating students!

What’s the schedule for the in-person event?
The Fall 2024 South Texas Theatre Auditions will be held on a date to be determined in October 2024.
Audition In-Person: In-person auditions will take place on TBD October 2024 at South Texas College in McAllen, TX. Students can register here for an in-person audition or presentation time beginning September 1, 2024.

NOTE: You will still need to apply to an institution if you want to be considered for admission. Part of this application may include another audition or interview, depending on the school.
What should I prepare?
Students auditioning for Acting:
For some pointers on how to light, frame, and otherwise make a great audition, please watch this video from the previous Head of Acting at The University of Texas at Austin, Quetta Carpenter.
- Personal Introduction – Tell us who you are, where you’re from, and why you are interested in pursuing a Theatre degree in college (approximately one minute).
- Two Contrasting Monologues of your choice. Choose material that you feel really shows off your skills and talents (2 minutes total).
- NOTE: The personal introduction and two monologues should be uploaded as one video file. Separate clips are not allowed.
- Headshot
- NOTE: headshot does not have to be a professional headshot. It can be a clear image taken on your mobile device.
- Artistic Resume
- Please compose a short paragraph describing your artistic identity and any additional interests you have besides performance.
Students auditioning for Musical Theatre:

- Personal Introduction – Tell us who you are, where you’re from, and why you are interested in pursuing a Theatre degree in college (approximately one minute).

- Sixteen bars from a song with piano accompaniment; no acapella (1 minute).

- Please compose a short paragraph telling us why you are interested in being a theatre teacher.
- Introduction video: This is an opportunity for us to “meet you”. Please start with your name and hometown, then tell us about how you became involved in the theatre. If there’s time, tell us a fun fact about yourself, or tell us where you are shooting your video from and why (approximately 1 minute).

Students interested in Technical Theatre:
You can upload your portfolio to your application or include a link to a webpage or other source.
