The second part of our two-part summer series features faculty, students and alumni sharing their talents across the globe. Featuring design work presented everywhere from Kopparberg, Sweden to Taipei, Taiwan and Steven Dietz’s work at number playwriting festivals, our Texas Theatre and Dance faculty and staff have had a very busy summer.
Faculty member and associate chair Susan Mickey is the costume designer for Madam Butterfly at Opera på Skäret (Kopparberg, Sweden), assisted by Kelsey Vidic (M.F.A. 2017) and Chun-Kang Chen (M.F.A. in Design and Technology candidate). Preparations for the show began in May and June. The show runs July 29 through August 27, 2017 and tells the story of two lovers from different continents who fall for one another despite all odds.
Earlier this summer, recent graduate David Molina Garza traveled to Taipei, Taiwan to participate in the World Stage Design Exhibition, a global design event featuring works from across the world. He received the bronze medal for his design of The Dialogues of the Carmelites (Butler Opera Center). He was joined by recent alumni Lacey Erb and Yi-Tai Chung, who also submitted work.
Steven Dietz has remained busy as always, traveling to the Kenyon Playwright’s Conference in Gambier, Ohio as the featured playwright for his work The Shimmering. He also served as the invited playwright at the McCarter Theatre Center Playwriting Retreat in Princeton, New Jersey this July.
