A Beautiful Day in November on the Banks of the Greatest of the Great Lakes is, most simply put, a Thanksgiving play called by sports announcers. Traditions are part of every family holiday, and every family holiday is full of strife and joy. Kate Benson’s play invites us to join the family at Wembly Stadium as they play the game called Thanksgiving Day: a day of gratitude in which we watch some people knock some other people down in order to get the ball over the line. Meet the incredible group of artists bringing this athletic and bold dark comedy to the Oscar G. Brockett Theatre.
A cast of students and collaborators perform athletic choreographed movement and sports commentary throughout the play. Performers include Natalie Tran (@), Jake Wilson (#), Emerson Hartman (Cheesecake), Esmeralda Treviño (Cherry Pie), Oyin Ojomo (Trifle), Carlise Rosa (Snapdragon), Ellenor Riley-Condit (GrandDada), Mackenzie Mann (Trainer/Trainer’s Partner/Smilesinger/The Twins/The Wives of the Twins), Emilio Mejia (Runnerman/Smilesinger’s Husband/The Twins/The Wives of the Twins/Republican), Mia Hsuing Ngyuen (Republican’s Wife), Adam Flores Jr. (Fred/Ed/Ned) and Penny Lou Zimmerman (Gumbo). The production will also feature live foley, performed by Jax Schuck.
