The action of the play is impacted by the onset of the global health crisis COVID 19 Pandemic that swept the world in early 2020 and continues today.COVID-19 is an autoimmune disease that attacks respiratory function and affects people of all ages with older people being the most vulnerable population that is susceptible to becoming seriously ill from the disease. Countries around the world responded to this crisis in vastly different ways to help protect their citizens from the pandemic. Some countries enforced total shut-downs where citizens we required to be at home. In the United States where the individual states hold a lot of power there were also a wide range of strategies employed to keep people safe with varying success. One nation-wide challenge (of many) became how to continue public education during the pandemic. In the early days of the pandemic almost all schools were moved to virtual learning, which Kemi experiences near the end of the play.
