On February 26th, UTeach Fine Arts students got the chance to walk the red carpet at the Texas Medal of the Arts Awards.
Presented biennially by the Texas Cultural Trust since 2001, the two-day affair is a star-studded celebration of the creative excellence, exemplary talents, and outstanding contributions by Texans in all disciplines of the arts. The TMAA raises substantial financial support, visibility, and awareness about the power of the arts to enrich a child’s education and enhance our state’s economy and cultural heritage.
Our students were able to witness firsthand the power of the arts to inspire, connect, and shape communities. From legendary musicians and groundbreaking visual artists to advocates who champion arts education, the evening was a true testament to the richness of Texas’ creative spirit.
For our UTeach Fine Arts students—who are preparing to become the next generation of arts educators and leaders—this event served as both an inspiration and a reminder of why arts education is so vital. Attending the awards show gave them the chance to see how artistic contributions are celebrated at the highest level and reinforced the importance of their own future impact in the field.
We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have our students engage with such an influential arts community and look forward to seeing how experiences like this shape their journeys as future arts educators!
