Graduate Portfolio Certificate in Food-Energy-Water Systems (FEWS)
Through this portfolio program, students will learn fundamental knowledge in systems analysis, water and/or energy, and agriculture. Students will receive FEWS-relevant training in technology development, public policy, and complex systems integration, while still becoming domain experts in a more focused topic specific to their field of study.
The interdisciplinary Graduate Portfolio in Food-Energy-Water Systems includes courses across three prominent schools at The University of Texas at Austin: the Cockrell School of Engineering, the Jackson School of Geosciences, and the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, and possibly other schools or colleges as the program develops.
Program Admission
The Graduate Portfolio in Food-Energy-Water-Systems is open to all University of Texas at Austin students currently enrolled in a master’s or doctoral level degree in good standing in their departments. Students must be in good academic standing and have permission of their graduate advisor to be considered for admission to the portfolio program.
Students are eligible to enter the Graduate Portfolio Program in Food-Energy-Water-Systems at any point in their graduate careers. However, initial admissions decisions to the university for all applicants will be handled by individual departments.
Students interested in participating in the program must complete an online application form, which will include:
• Degree information
• Faculty advisor name
• Area of specialization and/or research focus
• Proposed program of study in portfolio program (which courses the student intends to use for the portfolio program)
• Brief statement of the relationship of the portfolio program to degree program and professional goals
• Signature of student and his/her faculty advisor
Applications to the Graduate Portfolio in the Food-Energy-Water-Systems program are accepted on a rolling basis. Applicants will be evaluated for admission to the portfolio program by the Advisory Committee.
