The portfolio program is open to current graduate students in the university’s STEM-related and policy programs, with prior approval of the Graduate Advisor in the student’s primary degree program. Approved courses will provide foundational training in energy, water, and/or agriculture, and their integration using advanced systems tools.
Portfolio completion for all degree-seeking graduate students will require approval from the Portfolio Program Advisory Committee. All courses must be taken for a grade unless approved by the Advisory Committee.
At least two (2) of the approved courses for any graduate student must come from outside the student’s home department. In order to satisfy portfolio program requirements:
PhD Students
Complete a total of three (3) approved courses from the offerings in the program, as well as a three (3) credit hour independent study in the student’s home program (approved by a faculty supervisor in the student’s home department), for a total of twelve (12) credit hours in approved graduate-level courses.
The independent study course requires students to complete a paper on application of their specialty area to agricultural production, and to present at a departmental colloquium or an appropriate seminar or conference. The paper and associated seminar can be based on a literature review, FEWS directed research, and/or an experiential learning effort.
MS Students
Complete a total of three (3) approved courses from the offerings in the program for at least a total of nine (9) credit hours in approved graduate-level courses.
Portfolio courses can count toward a student’s degree requirements if allowed by their degree program.
