Jung Kwak, PhD, MSW, FGSA, is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Kwak’s program of research has been grounded in her commitment to improving access to and quality of long-term and palliative care, that is more inclusive and equitable, for older adults and their families living with dementia. Her current research projects include a study to engage persons with dementia and their family caregivers from diverse cultural backgrounds in goals of care conversations (funded by a CHPR pilot grant and a WellMed Foundation grant), a prospective study on the roles culture, faith, and cultural competency of healthcare teams in surrogate decision-making among culturally diverse dementia family caregivers (2021 Sojourns Scholarship award), and a national survey study of board-certified healthcare chaplains on their engagement in facilitating shared decision-making with patients and interdisciplinary team members.
