Curatorial Projects During the Covid-19 Isolation: Mercosul Bienal 12, Porto Alegre and Rethink Everything, Buenos Aires

Dr. Giunta will discuss her work as chief curator of the Mercosul Bienal 12, which was to be held in Porto Alegre, Brazil in April of 2020 but, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, quickly morphed into a series of digital interventions. Giunta will also discuss her Pensar Todo de Nuevo (Rethink Everything), the title of the first online exhibition launched by the Rolf Art gallery in Buenos Aires. Another pandemic adaptation, the exhibition considers “a new distribution of affections and human relations” amid confinement and isolation.

Andrea Giunta is an art historian and curator. She received her Ph.D. from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she is Professor of Latin American and Contemporary Art. She is also Principal Researcher of the CONICET (National Research Council, Argentina) and Visiting Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin. She is a past fellow of the Guggenheim, Getty, Rockefeller foundations. She has also held the Donald D. Harrington Faculty Fellowship at UT Austin, the Tinker Professorship at Columbia University, and was a visiting professor at École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. Among her books are Feminismo y arte latino americano (2018); Radical Women. Latin American Art, 1960-1985 (with Cecilia Fajardo-Hill); Verboamérica (2016, with Agustín Pérez Rubio); When Does Contemporary Art Begin? (2014); Escribir las imágenes (2011); Objetos mutantes (2010); Poscrisis (2009); El Guernica de Picasso:el poder de la representación (2009); and Avant Garde, Internationalism and Politics. Argentine Art in the Sixties (2007, 1st Spanish edition 2001).
