MSL members had an end-of-the-year 2023 group retreat.

Prof. Wang has been elevated to IEEE Fellow for contributions improving ground vehicle roadway safety. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world’s largest technical professional organization. More details can be found here.
MSL joins the US Department of Transportation University Transportation Center (UTC) Center for Climate-Smart Transportation (CCST) led by Johns Hopkins University in partnership with MIT, UT Austin, U. of Utah, Morgan State, and Dine College. With $10M funding from U.S. Department of Transportation, CCST focuses on transportation solutions for preserving the environment.
Profs. Wang, Hayhoe, Wei, and Zhu recently received an NSF Emerging Frontiers in Research and Innovation (EFRI) award “Brain-inspired Algorithms for Autonomous Robots (BAAR)”. This cross-disciplinary project is a collaboration among four disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Neuroscience, and Psychology. With over $2M from NSF, the research aims to develop novel AI algorithms with principles of neurobiological learning and insights into brain intelligence for autonomous robots such as self-driving vehicles and household collaborative robots.
