Professor Kowalski-Muegge was invited to share her experiences in cancer research and shed light on the question: What if technology were brought to the table of cancer care and viewed as a member of the team? Dr. Kowalski-Muegge discusses her journey as a researcher, initiated in HIV research and continuing in cancer research.  She relates genomics in medicine to a puzzle with a blank cover and how insights from molecular tumor profiling help to shape and uncover a hidden image.

Professor Kowalski-Muegge was invited to write about her experience as a recipient of a Texas Health Catalyst award.  She shares her view and learning as a cancer researcher finding herself within a business ecosystem for the first time.  Dr. Kowalski-Muegge highlights the importance of thinking beyond our traditional cancer researcher solving of questions and problems, to how to reach others’ related questions with a business mindset.

2021 Texas Health Catalyst Award Winning Digital Health Innovation

Professor Kowalski-Muegge led the development of a concept for computationally relating all the data components contained in a clinical-grade sequencing report used for treatment discussions to uncover patterns that shed light on actionable insights. This initial design concept spurred the development of the W3 (Whole-Data, Whole-Profile for Whole-Patient Care) application.
