Texas Exes Student Position – Paid

The Texas Exes, the alumni association for The University of Texas at Austin, announces the immediate opening for a part-time, non-exempt position for a Scholarships and Chapters Intern for the spring semester.

Position Overview

The Scholarships and Chapters Intern splits time between the two departments to assist in processing and distributing scholarship applications and with a recruitment initiative involving alumni and high school seniors.

Major Job Functions

  • Assist scholarships department in processing and distributing scholarship applications, including but not limited to: sorting scholarship application databases; disbursing application databases to chapter leaders; scanning and organizing scholarship applications
  • Assist chapters department with a recruitment initiative, including but not limited to: sorting files; sending and receiving call sheets from alumni; documenting yield results at project completion

Essential Job Requirements

  • Ability to work about 15 hours/week
  • Computer literacy consisting of Microsoft Office (Excel)
  • Highly dependable and punctual with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize several projects at once
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take initiative
  • Ability to work professionally with confidential information

COLA Journal looking for Editorial Board Members and Submissions-Information Session Sunday, Feb 17

COLAJ (College of Liberal Arts Journal), which is a part of LAUNCH (Liberal Arts Undergraduate Research Chapter), is looking for editorial board members and submissions! The information session will be Sunday February 17 in Joynes Reading Room 007A and will cover the requirements to be a reviewer and to submit an article to the journal. Health Education Graduate Programs

Are you interested in health? The graduate program in Health Behavior and Health Education in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at UT Austin is seeking motivated graduate students. The masters programs focus on health behavior across the life span and physical activity and health. Most students who earn masters degrees pursue applied careers, working with people in a variety of settings including health-related organizations, worksites, and schools. Tournées Film Festival

The French and Italian Graduate Student Organization (FIGSO) is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the Tournées Film Festival this month as part of a grant awarded from the French American Cultural Exchange and the French Embassy.

The selection of films showcases the diversity of contemporary French cinema and it is our sincere hope that faculty and students from across campus will take advantage of the Tournées Festival for their classes and will publicize the selection of films and their topics widely. We will be screening eight films at the Union Theater over the course of two weekends, beginning on Friday, February 15 at 6:45pm.

The event is free and open to the public and all films will be presented with English subtitles. The festival will also include an opening reception with refreshments and a talk given by Dr. Herve Picherit.

Slam Poetry with Anis Mojgani and Andrea Gibson

Anis Mojgani and Andrea Gibson are two of the most accomplished and most recognized slam poets in the world. They’ll perform together in the Joynes Reading Room on Thursday night, February 21st, at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, but will require a ticket for admission. Tickets may be claimed in person at the front desk of the Joynes Reading Room (CRD 007) while supplies last.

Honors students may also sign up to participate in a discussion of slam poetry led by Susan B.A. Somers-Willett (author of two poetry monographs and one book of criticism), at noon on Feb. 21. Students who attend both the noon discussion group and the slam will receive a free book by Mojgani or Gibson. For more information, call 512-471-5787.

Interested in art therapy? Join professional counselor and registered art therapist Deanna Miesch as she discusses how to succeed in this rewarding profession! Owner of Art Therapy Austin, Deanna will guide the session and explore the education, experience and understanding integral to a successful career in art therapy. Apply for Undergrad Research Poster Presentation!

The College of Liberal Arts is now accepting applications for the Undergraduate Research Poster Presentation Session as a part of Undergraduate Research Week, April 15 – 19. Presenters will have their posters professionally printed, courtesy of the College, and present their posters at the Liberal Arts Honors Day reception on Saturday, April 13. Students will also have the chance to request to present their research at the Liberal Arts Undergraduate Research Reception, hosted by Dean Diehl, on Thursday, April 18.

Students may apply to participate regardless of what stage their research is in.  For more details on these events, or to apply, please visit our website. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 8.
